Hey, man... My name is Thumper and I'm the Shredding Hippie. 

Besides being a life-long surfer, I am a practicing shaman, a writer and musician. I started the "Shredding Hippie" surfboards label because I wanted to take my 40+ years of surfing experience and design surfboards that really inspired me.

Hey man, I LOVE some of the newer surfboard labels like LOST, Channel Islands, Hayden Shapes, etc,. I'm not trying to compete with them. But there is definitely something missing in modern surfboard designs. So, I started designing my own surfboards that gave me that old school, Soul Surfing Vibe and combining it with some of the really bitchin' new school bottom contours.

I started surfing in the summer of 1973 on a Dewey Webber Pig. I was 10 years old. Now, 43 years later, I still feel like that 10 year old kid whenever I think about surfing, whenever I hold a surfboard and whenever I'm in the water connecting to Mother Ocean. My passion is finding ways to get the most out of my life and the most out of my surfing. I love all kinds of surfboards, tri-fins, quads, twin fins and single fins. I love 'em all. But, nowadays, there is a growing trend for that old-school, single fin, soul surfing vibe. I lived through that time, and I know how to design boards that reflect what we were all about back in the day...

I surfed single fins all through Elementary, Junior High and High School. I was there when the tri-fin thruster was invented. ( I got a funny story about the first time I rode a thruster, man). I've surfed all through the nineties with tri's and quads. I still surf them, but sometimes, you just gotta have that old school "Slide N' Glide" that only a good single fin can give you.

Hey, man this is a really bitchin' time to be a surfer 'cause now that we've gotten over the potato chip, elf boot surfboard phase and shapers are starting to shape some really bitchin' boards that have volume, man. And I gotta tell ya, that some the "new" styles of short boards are exactly the kind of boards we were surfing on in the late seventies, man. Surfboard shapes are coming full circle. So, I'm gonna be sharing with you about how to integrate old-school power carving into your surfing and why SINGLE FINS RULE!
